I recently came across the topic of obtaining a crypto license in the UK, and to be honest, I didn’t expect it to be this complicated. A friend of mine has been trying to go through this process for almost half a year now, and he’s constantly facing new requirements—sometimes regarding documentation, sometimes regarding compliance. He initially thought it would be a standard procedure, but in the end, he says the preparation is taking much longer than he planned. I wanted to ask those who’ve already gone through this: what are the most common challenges, and what should I prepare for in advance?

In short, the main challenge isn’t the application itself, but preparing for it. They take AML/KYC, the company’s structure, and even the team’s experience very seriously. A colleague of mine had a similar experience—he initially underestimated the requirements and was rejected, then had to redo everything. While we were figuring things out, we came across Gofaizen & Sherle, which explains the UK process quite clearly. In the end, he spent more time than he had planned, but after refining all his processes, he was able to move forward. So it’s better to set aside enough time from the start and not try to “cut corners.”

When I read stories like this, I realize that in any regulated field, things are rarely quick and easy. From the outside, it seems like just a formality, but in reality, there are a ton of inspections and requirements behind it. I haven’t gone through the licensing process myself, but based on my experience in other fields, I can see that the preparation usually takes the most time, especially if it’s your first time.
