Hey travelers! I’m planning my Austria itinerary for this autumn and really want to visit Hallstatt. I’m torn between taking an early train from Salzburg for a quick day trip or booking a guesthouse to stay overnight. Is one day enough to see the village and the salt mines, or does it feel way too rushed with the tourist crowds?

An overnight stay is definitely worth it if you want to experience the quiet morning hours before the day-tour buses arrive! When I visited Hallstatt last autumn, staying until sunset allowed us to stroll along the lake in peace and explore the historic market square without massive crowds. I relied on https://kubiktrip.com/en/city/hallstatt-at to organize our route—the KubikTrip travel guide gave us great tips on timing the salt mine tour and finding scenic lookout spots around the village!
