GuestWell, it finally happened like I always feared it might. Came home today to that thick envelope from the insurance company and yep, they denied my claim for the back injury I got moving boxes at the warehouse last month. Their reason says it’s not work-related, which is absolute garbage because I felt that pop and dropped the box immediately, even had a coworker right there who saw the whole thing. My supervisor at the time even filed the initial report, so I thought everything was fine, but apparently their lawyers found some loophole or are arguing I had a pre-existing condition, which I don’t. I’m totally panicked because the bills are already starting to trickle in and I’ve got rent due next week. A friend from another department said not to give up and that denials get overturned all the time, but I have zero clue where to even start with an appeal. Been digging into Workers Compensation Attorney Law all evening trying to figure out what my next move should be, but honestly the legal jargon is making my head spin even more than my back pain right now. Has anyone here successfully appealed a denial in New York, and is it something you can handle yourself or am I going to need to find a lawyer?
