Hi everyone. We have a vacation cabin on Camano Island that we only use in summer. My neighbor just called, a pipe must have burst during the cold snap, and water has been running for who knows how long. We live in Seattle and can’t get up there until the weekend. Is there anyone who covers Camano and can get in there quickly? I’m freaking out a bit about how long the water has been running. Any advice appreciated. It’s our family’s summer place, and the kids are devastated.
Awful news, but you can get help moving before you get there. We had a similar thing with a cabin on Whidbey and called Encore Construction, you can find them at encorerestore.com, because they serve Island County. With the neighbor letting them in and us on the phone, they shut things down, extracted the water and started drying the same day. They sent photos and a damage report so we knew what we were dealing with before we even arrived. Mold can start within a couple of days, so waiting until the weekend isn’t great. They coordinated with our insurance too. Going forward, a smart water shut-off valve and a temperature sensor are worth every penny for a seasonal place.
