I was raised to be ‘the nice one,’ and now as an adult, I physically cannot express anger. I swallow it, and it turns into anxiety or a migraine. Last week, a neighbor was blatantly disrespectful, and I just smiled and walked away, feeling sick to my stomach. This pattern is hurting me. What could be a productive thing to talk about regarding my fear of anger and finding a healthy way to express it?

I relate so much. I was always the “polite kid,” and now any hint of anger feels like holding a live wire. A coworker talked over me in a meeting last month and I just nodded along, then spent the whole night with a pounding headache. What helped me was exploring where that fear of conflict even started. This list gave me a good jumping-off point: emotional topics people commonly discuss in therapy . Maybe bringing up how your body reacts when you try to set boundaries could open things up.
