GuestI’ve been actively searching for a decent used sedan for about three weeks now and I swear half the listings I come across have the exact same story, someone is moving back to their home country and needs to sell their car urgently. At first I thought it was just a coincidence but after seeing it so many times I’m starting to wonder if it’s just a convenient excuse sellers use to explain why they’re asking for cash and pushing for a quick sale. The last one I went to see was a 2017 Nissan Altima in International City, the guy told me he was leaving in two weeks and needed the car gone, but when I asked to see the service history he said it was at his office and he’d send it later, which of course never happened. The car looked okay but I just couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. I’m not saying every person with that story is lying, but it’s gotten to the point where I’m automatically more skeptical when I see it in an ad. I’ve decided that regardless of the seller’s story I’m going to get a proper mechanical assessment on whatever car I finally settle on, because I’d rather know the truth from a technician than rely on a sob story that might be completely made up. I’ve been looking into a Pre Purchase Car Inspection service that can meet me wherever the car is and give me an honest report without any of the emotional pressure that comes with dealing with someone who claims they’re about to fly out of the country. Anyone else noticed this pattern or am I just being cynical?
