Hello everyone. My question is about reliability rather than price. Booked a boat trip through a random online agent on a previous holiday and it turned into a disaster – boat was nothing like the photos, no proper safety equipment, crew barely spoke English. Don’t want to repeat that in Bali. How do you tell a legitimate operator from someone reselling whatever they find? Any specific things to check before paying a deposit?

Hi. Sorry to hear that, unfortunately common with agents who just resell. Few things I check now: how long they’ve actually operated, whether they own their fleet or broker it, and whether cruising permits and life jackets are explicitly listed. A proper Bali Luxury Yacht operator will state all of this upfront rather than dodge the question. The company we used has been running charters for years with their own boats and thousands of guests, and permits for all passengers were included as standard. Also ask for recent photos of the specific boat, not the fleet. If they hesitate on any of that, walk away – plenty of good operators around.
